The British Council and Avloni National Research Institute invite English langugage teachers to enhance their professional development through our British Council Online Teacher Community by joining our upcoming Assessment Literacy webinar series.

The webinars will be delivered from the week of 22 January 2024 to the week of 25 March 2024, with exact dates to be confirmed based on the number of applicants.

What is the Online Teaching Community (OTC)?

The British Council Online Teacher Community (OTC) offers a new and innovative approach to supporting English language teachers’ continuous professional development. When you sign up for an OTC programme, you will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful professional development over an extended period, supported by online communities of practice.

You will be encouraged to explore new ideas, techniques and strategies, and – with the support of other teachers – identify what will work best in your classroom with your learners. You will create an action plan and later reflect on how it went, learning from each other’s experiences.

Interaction in the OTC occurs through webinars, discussion forums (where you can read and contribute ideas at a time suitable for you) and live Zoom sessions. You will need to commit to approximately three hours of study per week.

What are the Assessment Literacy webinars?

Our Assessment Literacy digital course for English language teachers involves a series of webinars where teachers share and discuss their understanding and reflect on their classroom practice through chat discussions.

Teachers who successfully complete 24 of the webinar sessions (90%), will receive acknowledgement of their professional development activity from the Avloni National Research Institute and the British Council.

Successful completion means that the participant both attends the sessions and actively engages in discussions.

What do the webinars cover?

The series is made up of:

  • Nine webinars on listening
  • Nine webinars on writing
  • Nine webinars on speaking

Each webinar lasts 60 minutes and will take place in the evening from 19.00 to 20.00.

The sessions will be delivered via Zoom. The webinar link will be provided to the registered teachers in due course.

All interactions will be conducted in English and we require a minimum B1 level to make the most of this approach. This is to ensure that you can fully participate in the programme.
