The Boiler Room event took place in Uzbekistan for the first time in March 2023 with the Sublimation music platform at the Institute of Physics of the Sun, supported by the British Council.

Boiler Room is an online music broadcaster and club promoter based in London. It hosts predominantly dance music events, focusing on underground genres, in locations internationally, and broadcasts the shows live over the internet.

Sublimation is a platform founded with the mission of encouraging personal expression of feelings and experiences through music and art. Dedicated to creating safe spaces for their community to immerse themselves in, Sublimation is based in Uzbekistan and Latvia, where they have been putting on parties since 2021.

For the first time in Boiler Room history, they headed to Uzbekistan for a celebration of the country’s music evolution in collaboration with local collective Sublimation. Taking place on 19 and 20 March 2023, the first day focused on the capital Tashkent’s electronic music community, bringing together some of the best DJs the city has to offer, while the second day focused on Uzbekistan’s rich musical history.

The first day was held at the Institute of Physics of the Sun, a Soviet era research centre with a unique backdrop of a parabolic reflector of which there are only two in the world, where Sublimation hosted DJ sets by Kebato, Mari Breslavets, Xyarim, Josef Tumari and collective co-founder Sabinē.

The second day took place at the State Museum of Applied Arts of Uzbekistan, where musicians played traditional instruments for a rare showcase of the country’s musical history. Performances included Azizbek Qalandarov, G’ulomjon Muhamedjonov, Javharbek Ismoilov, Mansur Ahmedov, Otabek Sobirjonov, and Toir Qo’zijev.
